Roles of magnetic anisotropy and inter site exchange interactions in the temperature dependent magnetization reversal in NdMnO3 perovskite
Abstract: Single crystal INS experiments at MERLIN (Exp. No. RB1820264, duration: 14-19 Feb 2019) were carried out on NdMnO3 to determine the magnetic anisotropy and inter site exchange interactions. The INS study has revealed spin excitations over 5- 21.3 meV along [H, 0, 0] and [0, -2, L], and over 3- 6 meV along [0, K, 0] corresponding to the Mn and Nd sublattice interactions. However, detailed low energy excitations are required to determine the Nd-Mn and Nd-Nd exchange interactions. We aim to understand the roles of single ion anisotropy and exchange interactions between Nd and Mn sublattices in magnetization reversal in NdMnO3 by carrying out additional INS measurements at LET to study spin excitations below ~2 meV. The proposed study forms first of its kind to reveal the microscopic origin of magnetization reversal phenomenon that is of technological importance in spin based devices.
